I was kind of digging the electronica, but I can't remember his name to check out the rest of the album.]]>

1) Waiting – This is a song that every Christian can relate to. I love the lyrics. Simple rhythm and bass line, just what the song needs. Nice guitar lead! “Keep waiting for hope, cause hope is what I need”. So true. Very nice tune!
2) I Tried To Call You – This is a song of frustration that every believer goes through from time to time. Knowing that God is there for us...but we don't always feel like He is. Lovely.
3) Why My Soul Are You Down? - “It's Faith that will lead you back to the heart of the Father” Beautiful, hopeful words. I really like the fingerpicking in the beginning. And the bass line is really nice, I do wish I could hear it a little better(bass line). A short but important tune.
4) Son of God, Emmanuel - “He always knew my name”. Isn't that a wonderful statement? A God who personally is involved with us, and cares for us. This song is very nice rhythmically. Drums might be nice if you ever redo this. Just a thought!
5) Count The Cost – A song about giving up your life so that Jesus can live through you. Unbelievers will have a hard time understanding this.....but it is critical. A tough love tune. Nice!
6) Rainbow Promise of Love – You have a very warm, pretty sounding guitar. I love the drums. Or are you banging on the back of the guitar? Lovely lyrics. Nice, melodic guitar solo. Great song.
7) Nothing I Can't Do – Lovely fingerpicking. Faith of a mustard seed....all we need to have miracles in our life through God. You have a deep relationship with God.
8) 'Cause It's His House – Sassy! I love the attitude in this song! It reminds me of JJ Cale a little bit. I love the rhythm. Nice guitar work!
9) I Was Blue Until I Read the Good News – This sounds like a lost southern rock song from the seventies, which is really cool. I love your bass playing! Great guitar leads. Fun tune!
10) On My Face – Indeed. Sometimes I miss that feeling of my brand new faith.....it seemed like everything was possible, and it was. It still is. I think this is actually my favorite song on your album.

I really enjoyed your album. Very strong showing for a first time RPM'er. Sometimes, I feel like you are a little unsure of your vocals......just let go, don't be afraid to do multiple takes and even put together the best parts. Believe me, vocals are scary to me, and I started out as a vocalist! Great job, look forward to next year!]]>

BUT... I have made more music in the last month, than in the last 20 years! And not like "I haven't played a note in 20 years so this month I played 2 notes..." either. I restructured my whole life starting in January for this, and now I've got 7 fairly complete (I'd say anywhere from 60% to 90% each) and very high quality tracks, plus an outstanding entry (if I do say so myself) into the Deadmau5 "Let Go" remix competition.

The latter is the primary reason I'm not hitting the 10 tracks/35 minute mark. I felt it was way too big of an opportunity not to give it the majority of my time & attention. Frankly I'm amazed at how much additional output I generated given how much time and focus I also spent on the remix!

So there you have it. I just wanted to go on record that I'm not finishing the race in Feb, but will be finishing in March. I've got a lot of exciting stuff coming down the pipe and I wouldn't have done it without RPM giving me the initial push so... thanks RPM! It's been one hell of a productive month.

I've tried to embrace different song structures this time around, at least on a couple of tunes. I've deconstructed songs that I love that are stylistically different than what I do and then mapped those structures (8 bars of this guitar line, then it overlaps with a second line, then the drum pattern changes, etc.) and built my own song based on the structure. It's been really interesting to try to write in such a different way.

On the performance side, I've been playing more bass. In particular, I've been playing without a pick, which is a real challenge for me. One thing I learned is that I've been playing way too hard and loud, which is why I was so uptight and unable to play. That's a very un-bass thing to do. So since I was playing bass, I bought a little Orange 8" practice amp and set it up in my isolation box. I've been using a DI to record a clean and amped signal of bass tracks and it's worked out really well. My playing has gotten better (it's now just "dreadful") and I've learned how to better align tracks to make up for latency. Yep - Mr. Ahead Of The Beat is occasionally in the pocket now!

Okay - your turn!]]>
