Just got a new mic in today - it supposedly is a clone of the MXL 890 - but a 1/3 of the price - I am hoping that this pushes me one step closer to decent live (but inexpensive) drums and maybe even a clearer vocal -
All I wanted was to ask a question and the forum says no... Maybe I got banned.
I really just want to know if anyone knows when and where the Portsmouth Listening party will be yet.
so now there is the rest of the year. What plans does everyone else have? This is first year were after I finished I thought about expanding on the sound I accomplished this year. First live drums and no samples. I want to do it better next year. So I am going to spend the rest of this year making test tracks to get drums sounding good and really focus on the home studio. I want epic to be available next year. Only 332 days left! Better get started.
March 1st always feels more like New Year's Day to me than the actual New Year's Day.
Done but not pleased. I am forced to leave multiple tracks undone and I never made it to mastering...or album art.
Oh well, there is always next year!
Swung home real quick and threw down a track - Drums 2 guitars and bass - will write the lyrics and record them tonight.
Really pushing it this year!
what I should be doing is recording the last two songs I have what I will be doing is watching TV instead
3 songs need vocal - one of those also needs drums
I am going to take the cowards way out and do one song at the beginning of the album called "Cheating the Beginning" that will be like 10 seconds
and one at the end called "The Cowards way out that will be the same idea... just to get to Ten.
Unless I get SUPER ambitious between now and Tuesday.
I think at this point I need to pick a single and do that song up right - Leave the details of the other songs for another day.
Too many (all 10) of my tracks sound like cheap demos right now. I need to focus on one.
I hate to cheapen out like this - it sort of feels like failure or cheating I guess. Certainly not to my own standards of what I consider my best effort.
Chin up, there is always next year. and I can spend this year setting up a space and coming with better recording techniques in the mean time.
This might have started out as my laziest album of all time; but I have ended up putting more effort into this one than any other and the quality is way worse.
I started doing RPM in 2006 and each album I have felt more proud of than the last, except last years, that was a total phone in... This year I had ideas.
Make a scratch guitar track, then hand it off to a drummer with no direction who in turn gives it to a bassist. Ends up back in my hands where the track sounds completely different from what I envisioned in the first place and I have a record that really pushes me
No one has that kind of time - Drummer gives up before we can start - Bassist can help mix but no longer has the time to write anything for himself. I end recording the drums with two microphones because I do not have time to set up properly anymore - Bass tracks hurt my fingers and the guitars will end up being boorish. I will be lucky if I finish vocal tracks before March.
