It's been quite an incredible 20 years, and I'm certainly glad to have a rich trail of RPM albums to mark the time. Al BeeElectronicAfter last year's RPM effort went in a more pop orientated direction after some of my experiments failed, this EP is much more off the wall musically. Blissfully imperfect in places, and in others downright amateurish, it certainly tries to push the boundaries of musical keys, musical rules and concepts of rhythm. Perhaps it is an unacceptable mess but it is definitely an attempt at abstract musical impressionism.EPSouth MoltonUKLINK
Alex MatchneerSynthI made an eclectic collection of songs and compositions that has something for everyone. Interesting rhythms, simple and nice melodies, lots of dynamics. I made it by spending the first half of the month generating as many ideas as possible, and selecting the best of ideas and refining them for the second half of the month. It's special to me because it's the most amount of music I've ever composed in a short amount of time and yet contains some material that's better than other ideas I've spent months on.AlbumBrooklynNew YorkUSALINK

Amelia WilcoxPopAn anodyne (noun) is something that soothes, calms, or comforts. My aim for this project was to illustrate a healing journey. Less about feeling better from some acute situation, but more largely about the dialog that takes place within yourself while teasing out themes and habits that might be holding you back. I was really inspired by the idea of getting to talk face to face with my younger self, so the whole EP sort of grew out of that seed.EPBurlingtonVermontUSALINK

Beer For Your FatherSinger-SongwriterI came up with this guitar part fairly quickly and then made the lyrics pretty loosely within the next day or so. Ben CenturyRockStarted this track in 2016. I wanted to make a dark rock song, something like what the band HIM would make. I got frustrated with how it was turning out and shelved it. Over the years, I forgot about it. In late 2024, I found it and gave it another listen with fresh ears. I decided it was salvageable, and decided to do more work on it. Buoy ABluesI started by selecting a smooth, sultry beat that matched the intimate vibe I envisioned for Sensual. Using BandLab’s built-in loops and instruments, I layered soft R&B-style chords and a mellow bassline to set the mood. I then recorded my vocals, experimenting with different harmonies and vocal effects to enhance the song’s emotional depth. To refine the sound, I used BandLab’s mixing tools—adding reverb for warmth and subtle compression for clarity. After fine-tuning the arrangement and balancing the levels, Sensual came to life as a soulful, immersive track ready for listeners to experience.SingleTorontoOntarioCanadaLINK

CantaloopsSynthWithout anything formally planned from the onset, I knew only that I wanted to create something that would give me goosebumps when listening back, since that is the reaction I have when I listen to some of the music by other artists that has the most impact on me personally. The result was more than I expected, and while I was shooting for an "album", I missed the criteria by one track and about a minute for total runtime. That said, the result is a mix of orchestral and synthesized elements which makes for an interesting journey start to finish and what I would consider very experimental when compared to my more traditional style of songwriting.EPThomastonConnecticutUSALINK

Cat Amongst The PigeonsExperimentalThis EP was supposed to be a lot more electronic in focus but it ended up featuring a lot more guitar and other stringed instruments and thus it rapidly moved in a much more experimental direction than I had anticipated. It is better to ride the wave than waste time swimming against the tide so I rolled up my musical sleeves and followed my ever expanding instinct. The songs combine elements of blues, folks, funk and rock, along with ethnic instruments and beats, and, a good dose of electronic hardware and software instruments, including my first attempt at playing the theremin. And I learnt to play the ukulele, kalimba and a pretty decent blues harp along the way too. Am not quite sure what I have created but it really was a riot. Over the last month I have learnt new skills and have truly grown as a musician. For this alone, I will always be proud of this music I have created and I hope that others may also take some pleasure in listening to it.EPNorth DevonUKLINK

Chris AndersonSinger-SongwriterIn what has now become a tradition, I took a dive into 2021's 283-song "Music Box" project, and came out with eleven more bangers. Chris CookeElectronic"Hyperspace Glide" is my 19th RPM Challenge submission as a solo artist. Music is not the focus of my life right now, and I've been less than motivated these last couple of years. I was determined to participate, but not really feeling it, and also not wanting to do a half-ass thing just to say I'd done it. On Saturday, Feb 22 I put together an EDM track ("Hyperspace Glide") using Live Loops in Logic Pro, and had a good time doing it. I felt like I'd make something I'd listen to again, and I could justifiable submit it as a single. And then the magic. I listened to the track again a few times on Sunday. By Monday, I felt like making music again! I wanted "Hyperspace Glide" to be a full LP, just like in the good old days. So I put together a concept and worked out 5 more tracks for a total of 35 minutes of music over Monday and Tuesday evenings. Now it's Feb 26th and I'm submitting. "Hyperspace Glide" tells the tale of an intersteller cruise gone wrong. We start out by boarding in Starlight Terminal 17D ("Starlight Terminal 17D"),where we board our starship cruiser and accelerate toward light speed. We break through into hyperspace and enjoy the ambient vibe ("Hyperspace Glide"). But then something goes wrong with the drive system! With a series of alarming noises, we drop out of hyperspace and drift for a bit while the crew checks out the system. ("Fluxed Up"). The cruise company puts down for an unscheduled layover on a blissful alien beach and we party while robots fix the ship. ("Gravity Haven"). In the distance, we can see the robots at work, and wouldn't you know, some of them are partying, too! ("Patch & Play"). Finally, the ship is repaired and we resume our cruise through the cosmos ("Orbit & Out"). It was an experience of a lifetime!AlbumLaurelMarylandUSALINK

Geo-JoeNoiseJoey found an old Sony cassette player, recorded some piano samples, fucked them up, and looped them with reckless abandon. Georgia and Joey later improvised live Rhodes and drums against the chaos of the cassette samples in an effort to communicate how they have felt living in the aftermath of Donald Trump’s second inauguration. At the ninth hour, on Feb. 28th -- a day set aside for an economic blackout -- Joey purchased a Squire p-bass from Uhlik Music in Wichita, KS and recorded some last-minute bass guitar. While the bass was used and bought locally, it was made in Indonesia which presents its own variety of a moral conundrum. Album and song titles are inspired by New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s remarks in the wake of Donald Trump proclaiming “long live the king” alongside a photograph of himself in a crown.EPWichitaKansasUSALINK

I've become increasingly interested in computer music as well as making more traditional rock music with modern computers. I had so much fun learning new things about synths, programming, arranging and electronic production last year. I really wanted to have another chance to flex those muscles. My partner Isobel came in on this one and contributed the vocals to the first song on the EP, a hyperpop-influenced banger called Supernova. The second track is a quick garage-rock tune that started as an experiment in sampling guitar chords to be played like a synthesizer. The final track is a more personal & dark epic that is intended to conjure uneasy feelings in the listener. I'm pretty proud of it all.SingleSt. John'sNLCanadaLINK

Kyla TilleyFolkThere was a brief moment when Galactica.org, a Meta owned attempt at building an LLM for Science (as if scientists don't learn how to conduct research) was open to the general public. It was trained on a number of scientific papers, and Wikipedia. I and my Twitch viewers spent a significant amount of time that week typing in silly things and laughing and laughing and laughing at the things the AI returned. I had just learned the Japanese kanji for the planet Jupiter, which uses the kanji for 'tree' so one of the things I typed was: Tell me about Jupiter, Tell me about trees. I got the following response: "Tell me about Jupiter, Tell me about trees is a short story by Philip K Dick The story is told in the first person by a character named David. David is an alien, from a planet in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way galaxy. He is currently living in New York City. He has no memory of his life before he arrived in the Solar System, but has developed a fascination with Earth's ecosystem. He has a theory that the Earth's ecosystem is a living organism, which has evolved over millions of years. He believes that, just as humans have evolved from primates, Earth's ecosystem has evolved from a single species. He has been attempting to observe and record this evolution. David decides to observe Jupiter. He is given a telescope by a local man, and begins observing the Jovian system. He notices that Jupiter is in the middle of a war between its moons, and decides to observe the planet from the safety of a spaceship in orbit. While in orbit, he begins to observe the Earth, and discovers that the ecosystem is changing. He concludes that the Earth's ecosystem is evolving. David then begins to observe other planets, such as Mars and Venus. He observes that the ecosystems of other planets are changing, and decides that Earth is no exception. He also begins to observe the Sun, and discovers that it is also evolving. David concludes that the universe is evolving, and that the Earth is a small part of the whole. David decides to observe the entire universe. He takes a spaceship to the center of the galaxy, and discovers that the universe is not evolving, but is in fact, decaying." I decided this silly little story was worthy of being turned into a song. The song structure follows the output exactly, and I took many of the lines word for word from the AI response. Meta might think they deserve a writing credit for that. I have not given them one. If they ever decide to acknowledge and pay all the artists whose work they've stolen to build their LLMs, I may reconsider. I will at least thank all the authors who's work was subsumed (likely without permission) by Galactica. I enjoyed the freedom a not so serious song gave me to play around with harmonies and synth sounds, the song at it's core is about curiosity but it is also about decay. It should be enjoyed for what it is, a fun song about a space alien conducting interplanetary research, but it should also serve as a commentary on the harms, particularly the environmental harms caused by AI for a product that is really quite useless.SingleConception Bay NorthNLCanadaLINK

LR FribergAmbient"Unyielding" is about what cannot be erased. Progress is not a straight line, and history is full of those who tried to turn it back. But some things, once known, cannot be unknown. Some truths, once spoken, do not disappear. Education cannot be undone. Awareness cannot be erased. The idea of freedom, once grasped, is not easily surrendered. There will always be manufactured division, distractions designed to exhaust. But beyond it, the foundations remain. The belief in dignity. The understanding of rights. The knowledge that power is meant to be held accountable. These are not trends or ideologies to be debated. They are the hard-won inheritance of generations who refused to yield. It’s instinct. It’s in the voices that rise, the hands that build, the minds that refuse to be dulled. Maria CherwickFolkwhile running errands last week, I started writing the first tune of this set in my head. When I got home, I scribbled down "Canadian Tire" as a placeholder title, simply to trigger my memory of when/where the tune was conceived. A few days ago, it occurred to me that "Canadian TireD" is a pretty spot on way to describe how a lot of us are feeling these days, with the barrage of ludicrous news coming at us every day from the administration down south. While it's easy feel quite hopeless, I've been reflecting on the possibility that it's always darkest before dawn. Perhaps that's naive, but it's also the only thing keeping me going. So with that in mind, I wrote "Glimmer of Hope" as an attempt to manifest brighter days ahead. The tune shifts from minor to major tonality, references several melodies I find particularly uplifting, and even quotes the B section of Canadian Tired in jig form. I started arranging this last night (Feb 28) around 10pm, and recorded all night. I played all the parts myself, and it's very revealing to write an arrangement for yourself, knowing you don't actually play one of the instruments haha, but please bear with my 5 note cello part... Marten IngleExperimentalThis years offer is a 35 minute jam/collage dedicated to the most deeply feared and loved creature-myth of the Deep C- Godzilla! First appearing in 1954 in the film by Ishiro Honda, Godzilla quickly became the most significant mythical icon of post Hiroshima/Nagasaki atomic destruction in Japan and the emerging world wide Cold War. The mid 50's zeitgeist was all about “Atomic”, “the Bomb” and the new found destructive power that could effectively bring the world to it's end. Result of nuclear tests, Deep Sea earthquakes, a metaphor for the rise of Post War USA, and warning about imminent Climate destruction, Godzilla is the King of Gaijus. My son Neil created a graphic character in early childhood that became a leading figure in his creativfe world, “Godzilly”. Possible reference to his exposure to my passion for monsters and Godzilla in particular, I am exploring the different aspects that Godzilla has meant to me in my life. I have used as a starting point the profound and enigmatic score of Akira Ifukube, “Godzilla- (Main Theme)” composed for the film in 1954. The Deep C World of 2025 has seen some dramatic and troublesome changes and poses some crucial and important questions: Will Godzilla reawaken as deep ocean mining becomes another of human destructive tendencies in a rush to get the biggest stash of limited resources? Will NOAA survive? Where is the SS Gojira? Will Bruce Willis star in a bromance with Godzilla to destroy the Asteroid of Doom coming up in 2032?AlbumParisFranceLINK

The RPM Challenge offers an activity in February that is a bit of fun, and an 'at least once a year' chance to capture some of the things bouncing around in our heads...these ideas are very few takes, and that's evident, but some of the material is stream of consciousness, right off the top.AlbumMaddox CoveNLCanadaLINK

MungoElectronicI created this album of (mostly) electronic rock music in the month of February 2025 for the annual RPM Challenge. As usual, I realized this project using Logic Pro and some of my favorite textures (electric piano, drums, drums, drums, bass, shiny clanks, fuzzy eruptions and, yes, drums). I started off with playing 8 keyboard improvisations (with various MIDI instruments you can hear throughout the album) from which I composed and arranged these 9 tracks.AlbumMeridianColoradoUSALINK

SmokeyVWExperimentalI experimented with writing a mass/spring/damper computer model. The intent was to use it to make a moderately large model to create sounds. I learned a lot about these sorts of models and how notoriously unstable they can be. The big battle for me was damping the network just enough to prevent run-away feedback, but not so much as to make static, unchanging sounds. I have lots more work to do on this. I got some reasonable bell-like sounds and a few crazy chaotic ones. I used what I had to create two songs. "Back And Birds" mixes a conventional bass instrument (in Garageband) with an unusual rhythm, plus some drums, a field recording of birds heard out my window, and one sound from the computer model played twice. "Evolving Bells" is made entirely for sounds made by my computer model. I cross-faded them in Garageband.SingleBostonMassachusettsUSALINK

Stuggs Attaway and FriendsGuitarMusic has a way of connecting threads we never expected, and this collection of songs does just that. "I Can't Believe It" brings together four distinct voices, each interpreting the same phrase in a completely unique way. From shimmering dance floors to dusty Appalachian coal towns, from grimy punk basements to quiet moments of acoustic reflection, these songs prove that music is as diverse as the hands that shape it. Hall of Mirrors - "I Can't Believe It (You're Electric)" Hall of Mirrors channels the neon glow and boundless energy of the '80s into every beat. Led by the ethereal Salomé Raphaëlle, their sound fuses pulsating synths with irresistible hooks. "I Can't Believe It (You're Electric)" is a testament to their ability to craft songs that feel like pure movement. Written by Raphaëlle and songwriter Stuggs Attaway, this track invites you to lose yourself in the music and let the rhythm take control. Bull Bunyan and the Pest Pressure - "I Can't Believe It (The Coalman, the Baron and the Hurrier)" This song is a left turn for Bull Bunyan and the Pest Pressure, best known for their raucous blend of bluegrass and punk. "The Coalman, the Baron and the Hurrier", written by lead singer Billy Mitchell and Stuggs Attaway, with evocative lyrics by SEAM, leans fully into Southern Gothic storytelling to paint a vivid and haunting tale of betrayal and revenge. No Bull Bunyan song is complete without facemelting runs on their distinctive banjo ukulele, and this song is no exception. Duck Shovel - "I Can't Believe It" Raw, urgent, and unapologetic, Duck Shovel takes a sledgehammer to societal complacency. Fronted by the ever-fierce Kaoleen, their music rages against the machine with anthemic power. Co-written by Kaoleen and Stuggs Attaway, "I Can't Believe It" is a blistering testament to frustration and disillusionment, delivered with the force of a basement show at full volume. Stuggs Attaway - "I Can't Believe It (But It's True)" Stripped down and deeply personal, Stuggs Attaway's contribution closes out the collection with warmth and sincerity. His songwriting, often reminiscent of dusty journals and late-night musings, shines here in an intimate love letter to his wife. "I Can't Believe It (But It's True)" is a quiet reflection on gratitude and devotion, a song where every note feels like a whisper meant for only one person—but one that anyone can feel in their bones. Four songs, four perspectives, one unifying phrase. "I Can't Believe It" isn't just a compilation; it's a journey through different worlds, tied together by the power of expression. Let these songs take you where they will.EPDothanAlabamaUSALINK
SUCCULENT SUCCUBUSExperimentalIn a vibrant homage to the color pink and the Residents' seminal Commercial Album, one can draw parallels between the whimsical allure of the hue and the avant-garde artistry of the music contained within. Just as pink can evoke feelings of both playful nostalgia and deep introspection, Commercial Album takes listeners on a surreal journey through short, experimental tracks that challenge conventional structures. Each 1 minute piece, like splashes of pink across a canvas, offers a unique perspective, inviting reflection on the absurdities of modern life, consumer culture, and identity.AlbumMontrealQuebecCanadaLINK

Using samples of church sermons, feeding my chickens, vocals of my daughters, and more made creating the resulting instrumental grooves more personal and satisfying than my usual method of sourcing samples from old commercials and other oddities. The Arlington ArgumentsIndieI managed to get through ten all new songs this year, but it was a struggle. My guitar skills are still pretty sub-par so I struggle to come up with ideas sometimes and then remember how to play them later. Also lyrical ideas came in at a trickle this year. The last four or five songs all came in a rush just a couple of days before the finish line. I will say that things I initially thought I hated and kept because I was running out of time are what I'm looking back on most fondly in the immediate afterglow of completing everything. The NathansRockWe made an intense track with loud, distorted riffs that represent insanity, with one song soft rock making it seem like everything is sad after the craziness that the artist has gone through. We, The Nathans, made this in music class, using instruments such as the electric guitar, bass and drums. We made this with the idea that the songs represent someone losing their mind, filled with regret in the song 'Downfall' and then becoming out of control in the final song.EPSt. John'sNLCanadaLINK

The TropesGuitarI made a rock & roll song about the end of the world. It’s special to me because it’s unhinged but purposeful, raw but finished. I put it together with drums, bass, a ton of guitars, and a lot of singing. It’s got a wild energy that comes from doing it yourself—messy, chaotic, but still complete.SingleAustinTexasUSALINK

The Wizards of VomitGuitarGallileous Intergalactic Cavemen Collective VS the Slowjoint Pigeon Trashbirds describes the epic battle between Gallileous Intergalactic Cavemen Collective and the Slowjoint Pigeon Trashbirds (obviously). This year I planned to finish ideas and starts of songs from the past 5 years, instead of writing new songs. This because something tells me I may have little time to work on music for the next 18 years or so. Nonetheless, I could not stop myself from still writing new songs, so this years album is a mix of some new songs and some older ideas and projects I have been sitting on. The (collection of songs that is just long enough to be called an) album features dreamy guitar delays, slow and heavy stoner riffs and plain weird experimental guitars, all describing the battle between GICC and the Trashbirds.AlbumUtrechtNetherlandsLINK

ustaknowGuitarThese three of this Single, as most of mine are, are free flow thought, word jumble then re-orchestrated after letting it sit for a while. Much of what "inspires" me is my environment in my daily routine, snippets of stuff that I then relate back to something; in this case, it was these tracks this February 2025. In how I see my work, it's to allow the listeners own "mind pictures", as I call them, to form and mean whatever it may, to them. "Bloddy we go" is from 2015, when it was first bounced and not touched until now - I did/do (my method) many "5 min write while recording" bounce tracks. It's all flow of thought, lyric, melody, orchestration, 1st pass 1 take. For me, often, if it's not something I care for, that's it. However, as with this one from 2015 - I often am in a mindset that may not recognize some value in it. This February, I did, and here it is. And, fyi, the title was nothing more than part of the free flow that got jotted down, recorded.SingleBarnegatNew JerseyUSALINK

Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken ToysIndieTWENTY Years of RPM and Counting A note from Edrie: Twenty years ago, the RPM Challenge kicked off an artistic fever dream that’s still raging. It’s how Walter and I met, and since then, February has been a month of absolute chaos, creativity, and major life moments—our daughter Wednesday (now 10!) was born, plays were premiered, jobs were lost (and found),homes were packed and unpacked, weddings were thrown, snowstorms were battled, and yes, albums were made. No matter what, we always found time to make some noise. In 2023, Walter hit pause on BUNKER BUDS, our daily dystopian talk show built to bring some joy into the end-times. By 2024, they were back, and in 2025, BUNKER BUDS has become an essential life force in these times of hardship for our community. It stands as a beacon of love and acceptance, fighting fascism with love and tentacles—because art, music, and resistance are always intertwined. Now, let’s talk about our 20th RPM album, Brick Through A Limousine. This one’s a big one—twenty years of albums, twenty years of mischief, and twenty years of the best damn people making it all worthwhile. And this year? It’s got a special touch—Wednesday, who’s been part of nine albums in all kinds of ways, is making her violin debut on The Dust Moat Atmosphere. She’s been absorbing music her whole life, and now she’s in the mix, bow in hand, carving out her own sound. Also, if you’re wondering why we didn’t release this on February 28th—it’s because we stood in solidarity with the BUY NOTHING protest against the economic and cultural brutality being inflicted upon us. We refused to participate in a system that thrives on exploitation and suffering. So we held off. And now, on March 1st, we come bearing noise, love, and a whole lot of tentacles. To RPM, to the artists who keep showing up, and to everyone who keeps making weird, wonderful things in the face of whatever madness the world throws at us—thank you. Let’s keep making noise. Wilfried HanrathSpoken WordTaking part in the anual RPM Challenge has become very important for me. I love the motto - make music in february just because you can. What´s new, this year I had the idea of applying the idea to all months, so I will continue tomorrow with "make music in march just because you can". Wrist PhantomMetalI had been having a rough time with mental health lately and I figured what better genre to express that through than DSBM (depressive suicidal black metal),an entire sub-genre of extreme metal dedicated to expressing that. It's my first time experimenting with the genre and I'm pretty happy with the result. I wanted to do a full album with 8 tracks but ended up running out of time, so the other 3 songs will probably come out as an EP in the future.EPMontrealQuebecCanadaLINK
WXORockThis is a MIDI demo of a to-be-precorded track for a progressive rock album I want to make. This was the last piece I needed to complete the album. The music itself is a bubbling quirky barn-burner that bounces from influence to influence at a fast pace. For Yes fans out there, I originally wanted to call this Newfoundland Khatru... and I still might. Something that I did again in this piece that I love doing, but missed doing for a while, was building a big fortress out of ostinatos, repeating it, and fading out. That occurs in part two though ;). You get the vibe of travelling back through all the areas in a game you've beaten 100%. The second track is a joke edit of the original piece. I vertically flipped all the notes in the MIDI clips so that notes that went up go down now at the identical interval and vice versa. The results are very strange but surprisingly musical. You really don't want to miss it.EPSt. John'sNLCanadaLINK

Zach KaasExperimentalI set out to make a healing album. I wanted to make music that could theoretically end up on a psychedelic medicine playlist, however what comes out of me is usually a lot of dark, insidious, and jarring vibes, so I'm not sure that would go very well. Being exceedingly busy left me with only about 4 days to complete the whole project. I booked time in a diy studio and recorded a few hours of material (videoed it too, just in case I want to do something with it later),and proceeded to come home to edit and overdub synthesizers. Recorded in Logic, but all the creative work was done in Ableton. Somehow managed to use no software instruments!AlbumBostonMassachusettsUSALINK
