My first attempt at the RPM Challenge, A Bird in the Hand is a collection of alternative pop songs. 90% of the material was written over two weeks in February 2023. Recording and production was done during the writing process.
Favourite Moment
While not entirely happy with the finished album, it was a great feeling to draw a line in the sand and call this "done". Having struggled for years with over analyzing and self criticizing there is something freeing about just letting go and preparing to start something new.
Advice
There were many lessons learned during the process. 1. First instincts on a mix are generally the best. Going back and constantly remixing and editing seems to end with not so great results. 2. I have a lot of room for improvement on my singing and am yet to find my voice. 3. For next years challenge I will try and be prepared with a concept / theme / genre to try and achieve a more cohesive album.
