I wanted to make an album that I enjoyed singing along to and that had plenty of cool synth solos. With some of the songs I chose to be a bit more abstract or surreal and sometimes go for nontraditional forms.
As I was recording the vocals for my third or fourth song, it occurred to me that in the future I could just sit down and make songs and it never has to be some grand endeavor and the song itself doesn't even need to make sense for it to be enjoyable for me. That was a liberating feeling.
This year helped to emphasize the value of putting in consistent work and that the feeling of not wanting to work on music largely disappears once I've actually gotten started working.
