Getting back to the riff for this one. The lyrics are adapted from a poem written by Chidiock Tichborne on the eve of his execution, condemned to be eviscerated, hanged, drawn and quartered for his role in the Babington Plot in 1586, to kill Queen Elizabeth. Less about history, and more exploring feelings of isolation, and being trapped in a role you cannot escape.
Even with only a commitment to a single, this year's RPM was tough to find time and tougher to find inspiration. I had this poem sitting in my browser for over a month figuring I might get inspired to use it. Like breaking glass in case of emergency I finally married it to one of the pieces of music I was working up. It worked well enough and gave me enough momentum to finish a B-Side :-)
Its a fun challenge if you can find the time in your life to do it. And if you don't have the time, make the time. Making new music is always worth the trouble, even if its only for yourself.
