I made an album of original music. This was about 90% written in February. I have had many of these musical ideas kicking around for about a year, but they were _far_ from being considered complete songs. I recorded this in my home studio using Ardour on Ubuntu. I used MIDI for drums and keys. I made it for everybody. I feel like there were some things that people needed to hear.
Yes, the gratifying way that the title track came together was certainly special. That and the instrumental. I never felt any guarantee that these would be even listenable, but I ended up really loving them.
Yes. Please do your best and do it now. There's no way that you'll know what you might be able to do without trying. It's also important to recognize that what you do will almost certainly fall short of your expectations. But it doesn't matter. Great art isn't remembered for having been a great idea. It's often widely recognized as the best that the artist could do at that time. And the very existence of the thing is significantly more important than the explicit achievement of any particular structural goals.
