This is my 17th RPM Challenge. This year I decided I would hit all four length goals (Single, EP, LP, and Boxed Set) with a single 100+ minute track. And I didn't actually start until February 24th. "Rumination" is a long, and I do mean long, dark ambient track that alternates minor second intervals for 9 minutes before shifting up a 1/2 step. By the end of 102 minutes we've returned to the original key one octave up. (Actually for a more dramatic ending I skipped the very last round.) Three base tracks stay with us throughout, shifting key as needed, while drums vary and other sounds join us from time to time. I liken it to a long road trip on a desert road somewhere in the western US, fairly monotonous, but with flashes of sights going by from time to time. I seriously doubt anyone will listen to this in its entirety. If you do, please drop me a line and let me know!
I was bone dry on creativity on Feb 24th when I got this idea. The nerve of starting a Boxed Set with less than a week to go really got me going. By Sunday when it was all coming together, I realized, "Wow, I'm actually going to pull this off!"
Never give up, never surrender. Also, I learned that tools and websites REALLY don't play well with single, very long tracks!
