Metamere	Water Raga	Electronic, Traditional	The work I did for the drone orchestra this month got me interested in making another drone-centric track. The drone with the water noise effect is a patch I made on my Korg Minilogue xd. I created my own stylophone app last winter using p5.js, and added in a lot of exotic musical scales, which got me interested in Indian music. For this song I used the Raga Sindhura Kafi in C, then switched to the Raga Sarasvati in F, which is a mode of the first, then switched back. I added a pitch bend feature to the app this week and practiced with it a bunch to get a feel for it. Under Kenny’s gentle direction, Dan and Matt punctuated the first half of the song with guitar embellishments, then traded leads throughout the outro. Rather than playing a standard drum part, Kevin opted to try emulating the sound of an orchestral percussion section via MIDI and plugin, drawing on long-ago memories of concert band rehearsals during spring semesters when the marching band moved indoors. Metamere	Hope For Tomorrow	Electronic, Classical	This piece is somewhat programmatic, somewhat expressive. I wanted to tell a story of moving from a dark place of drudgery and powerlessness to finding courage, strength, purpose, and joy. I’ve been a part of the community for a bit, but this was my first submission. I was excited to use my updated and repaired Synthstrom Deluge to make something cool. I wanted to make full use of its new OLED display, but it didn’t make much difference for this particular song, since I was mostly using my older methods of midi sequencing of synths and multisampled instruments, recording keys improv, and simple beats with synth drums. I did advance my skills a bit learning to use the arranger mode, which allowed me to make a more complex structure for the composition and free up my hands for twisting knobs and doing some keys improv with the lead in the first section during the recording. On the Deluge I used the Drumuge synth kits for the beats, and a TAL Fairlight vibraphone multisampled instrument, which I adore. The other gear used in it were the Dreadbox Typhon for the drone and lead (a patch I modified from the Biblos7 preset),the Korg Minilogue xd with a strings patch I based on the synth strings from Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays’ “As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls” (from the section that was used in a famous cologne ad). I recorded it onto SD card on the Tascam Model 12 Mixer, so I only used the PC for the Audacity software to trim the ends and convert to mp3.	https://soundcloud.com/metamere/tracks

Spice Rack Collective	She's Out Of Sight 'Cause I Don't Mind	Singer-Songwriter	June 17th, Leum brought to the studio a lovely, plaintive reflection on lost love. He recorded a solid first take, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, then invited the rest of us to fill out the production as we saw fit. Margaret added some background vocals the same day, and we had a spare, lovely ballad. Of course, I (Kevin) couldn't leave well enough alone. :) After everybody else left, I recorded a couple of takes on drums and bass, added space for a lead of some sort, and tacked on another chorus. Later in the week, Kenny, Margaret, and I used a band rehearsal slot that would otherwise have been canceled to add a couple of electric guitar tracks, tambourine, and (on a whim) a keyboard sax solo! Margaret recorded one take, I recorded another, then I used some DAW shenanigans to pan them left and right and add a phantom harmony sax up the middle. :) Hope Leum likes what we've done with his creation!	https://alonetone.com/spicerackcollective/

I did that, and wrote and recorded some words to boot, inspired by the Pentheus legend (of course) and the Star Wars show Andor whose finale was fresh in my mind.

WXO	Here In Time But Nowhere In Space	Ambient, Traditional	The best way to learn an instrument is to write music to play on said instrument, so this piece serves the purpose of learning some guitar. I used real instruments as the basis for the rest of it. The beats are the stock built in ones from my PSR 72 Yamaha keyboard but recorded on the mic instead of through a cable. I use almost exclusively a cheap Dolphin Hammond Organ for the keyboards here. Some MIDI supports my vocals; I thought it would be cool to sing alongside a Vocaloid. The Irregular Decagon	I'm a Mushroom	Indie, Rock	This is the 5th single from my debut album 'Psilocybin & the Psychonaut'. Out of all the songs that have been written for this album, I'm A Mushroom took the longest to write & record. It's the one track that is authentic to the 'decagon' factor in my artist name (I layered 10 different vocal takes over one another). Buku passed an instrumental he’d made over to Salman who added his magic to it giving it a lot more drama that inspired the vocal pairing from Buku you hear, who recorded it under real pain from an injury sustained from a fall early in the month, and put finishing touches on the arrangement and production once he could bear it again. Salman gave some final notes, Buku touched it up, and you have the first track under our new duo name, Soup Crate. We figured that after all of that, the ONLY thing anybody would really want to hear from us would be the comforting 'plink-plink-fizz' of an indigestion or hangover remedy, gently doing its thing in a glass tumbler full of hope. I recorded Skit (hangovers),he recorded me (indigestion),and we lovingly weaved those recordings into a four movement symphony, the first of which is before you now. Savory Flakes	After We Were	Pop	removed the self imposed time limit and covered most of the bases, if anyone can stay with the whole thing. Cut cut cut, stripped and saved.
Magic Bullet	Who Is Earthshine?	Noise	UnCaged: 33'4'' - it's a piece we've recently recorded for the French label, Camembert Électrique, to be released on a compilation called "Silence" in early December. It was John Cage whose 4'33'' cleverly demonstrated the near impossibility of silence, but our approach was the antithesis of this, creating a work from white, pink and brown noise, effectively masking all other sounds so you can hear nothing but. White noise, in particular, is good for that, a gentle shushing sound to block out the intrusive clatter of the modern world. That's one application. But when tweaked, we discovered, a few changes to the EQ, a little introduced cross-phase et al; well, it becomes a much less pleasant beast. Who is Earthshine? Immerse yourself in the full 35 minutes of this much less pleasant beast and you will know. A little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing...

Salman Ahad	Tamanna	Classical, Electronic	I was really inspired lately by Olafur Arnalds' album 're:member' and wanted to try and see if I could conjure my own version of a string-based piece that also incorporates some synth elements, and I'm really happy with how this turned out. "Tamanna" in Urdu means contentment or peace of self, which is kind of what the track started out trying to express but I guess this took a little longer to make so that sense of inner contentment faded away as the track progressed and that's kinda why it ends the way it does.

Chris Sexton	The froggy song!	Electronic	My friend challenged me to write a song with his sons toy zylophone! I ended up recording his beatboxing beat and a few chime sounds at the local playground for good measure. This was my first time sampling sounds so it was a good learning experience. Thanks to my wife for being my percussionist and banging the chime sounds at the very end for me to remix.
